St Clements’s Students help Burma Appeal.
After watching the news reports on the disastrous cyclone that hit Burma on the 6th May 2008 the year 7 students of St Clements’s College, in Skegness were quick to ask their teacher Chris Suich what they could do to help. Chris (Rotary Club of Grimsby Havelok) knew that Rotary International were already mobilized with their Shelter Boxes and suggested that they could give ‘Loose Change for Burma’ in a Friday morning assembly.
The students in her Tutor group helped to explain to the rest of the year group where Burma actually was situated (thanks to an enormous globe from the Geography Department), and indeed what a cyclone was and the type of damage and suffering likely to be caused. After showing the students the informative and emotive DVD on the Rotary Shelter Box project a collection followed. Some of the Year 11 students also heard about the collection and were persuaded by their Tutor Dominique Stainton to have a whip round for the worthy cause. The amount raised was over £70.00.
This is not the first time students from St Clements’s have helped Rotary International causes. They have fundraised for 7 wheelchairs and several wind-up radios in recent years.
Well done to all the students who donated their loose change.
